#LLSTORY - Sarah Bennetto O'Brien

Our newest #LocalLegendsStory is from Sarah Bennetto O'Brien, owner of Scapes - Fresh, Local, Takeout on PEI and maker of the best handpies you'll ever eat. 100% worth it to make a trip from Charlottetown to Borden-Carleton for one!

"My name is Sarah Bennetto O'Brien and I'm the Chef/Owner of Scapes PEI in the Gateway Village of Borden-Carleton. Located seconds from the Confederation Bridge, we're your first taste of home! I'm originally from Sudbury, Ontario and have lived on Prince Edward Island now for a total of 8.5 years.

I came to the Island to be a part of the first graduating class of Applied Degree in Culinary Operations students at Holland College in 2006, and was so blown away by the level of organic ingredients here and the enthusiasm of local suppliers that it stole my heart. Not to mention the marriage proposal from an Island-born culinary student with an epic moustache. We have chosen to buy a home and start a business in rural PEI, and are so happy to be raising our son in a community where we can be very involved with his amazing consolidated school.

Being able to operate a year-round restaurant in a typically seasonal environment has shown us that the strength of rural communities is truly something so special. Our suppliers are our neighbours, and we are honoured to be able to feed families and individuals the best that PEI has to offer.

Our staff at Scapes is proud of the quality of ingredients available to us, and we work hard every day to be the best ambassadors that we can be!"
